When Randy became close to a girl named Pinky one summer when he and Earl were supposed to be doing chores for their aunt, Earl became jealous and so sent Pinky a note, supposedly from Randy, breaking up with her. Randy was traumatized by the experience for his whole life, seeing Pinky as the only girl who ever liked him.
Earl eventually admitted his part in their break-up when Randy tracked down Pinky, who turned out to be Joy. They began to spend time together when Joy realized why she liked Randy in the first place, and they eventually kissed and so Earl was able to cross Randy off his List.
