As Earl is in a coma and slowly dying, Randy is getting ready to say goodbye to Earl and realizes that for each list item that gets crossed off, Earl recovers a little more. After noticing this, Randy looks for a list item that can easily be crossed off and when he finds "Wasted Electricity", he turns off the lamp at Earl's bed and Earl recovers a little more.
